About the Cafe

Diane and Tom's Cafe and Professional Catering Services Inc. was founded in 1991 by Diane and her husband of 20 years, Tom Barnette. Diane & Tom's Cafe is fully licensed and insured.

Diane was a Temple University Business major and Tom was an Executive Chef at Stouffer's Top of Centre Square for 12 years. Diane and Tom both worked as dieticians at Pennsylvania Hospital, providing 3 hot meals and snacks each day for the entire hospital.

Since 1991, the corporation has grown, and in the year 2000 purchased its first facility at 40 W. Maplewood Mall, in Germantown, Philadelphia.

Diane and staff hold certificates in food handling and preparation. Approved by The City of Philadelphia's Department of License and Inspection, Department of Health, and the Office of Food Protection.

Diane & Tom's Cafe specializes in a healthy international food menu. Over a 13-year period, Diane & Tom's Cafe has received the honor of being voted #1 Restaurant in the Germantown area. Their international food was featured on 2 major television stations in Philadelphia — WCAU with morning anchor Steve Levy, and Fox 29 with anchor Janet Zapolo.

Diane & Tom's Cafe provides hot lunches, breakfast and snacks to the student population of charter schools around Philadelphia, including The Mathematics, Civics and Sciences Charter School (MCSCS), one of the largest charter schools in Pennsylvania. Since 1999, Diane & Tom's Cafe has provided hot lunches to a number of charter schools in Philadelphia, including:

• Catering special student functions at Benjamin Franklin High School

Diane & Tom also have catered affairs given by notable locals, including former Mayor and present Governor, Edward G. Rendell, Bernard Hopkins, Undisputed Middleweight Champion of the World, PA State Representative and Finance Chair, Dwight Evans, and WDAS and WHAT.

Diane Barnette has served as an advisor to schools on nutritional standards according to State requirements, including:

1. Planned menus.


2. Trained school staff on food preparation, serving and handling.


3. Provided information on the types of equipment needed for school lunch program.


4. Assisted in planning food service needs from food to paper products and supplies.


5. Provided food for several school lunch programs and caters school affairs, such as proms, school dances, meetings and outings.


6. Served as a speaker to children and youth on the importance of nutrition, eating vegetables and drinking lots of water.


7. Provided hands on demonstrations and samples to children and youth, such as juicing carrots and apples.
